WEVL FM 89.9 is the Mid-South's only listener-supported, independent, volunteer radio station.
Our call letters say it all: "WE VoLunteer." With only two full-time paid staff positions, WEVL reflects the collective effort of numerous volunteers, both on and off the air, for 48 years.
WEVL currently broadcasts daily starting at 6 AM. With nearly 60 different programs airing each week, FM 89.9 offers a wide variety of music and information presented by programmers who independently prepare their own shows and who know their areas of interest well. Blues, rock, Memphis music, world music, bluegrass and country are just some of the many musical genres we cover.
WEVL is licensed by the FCC to Southern Communication Volunteers, Inc., a non-profit, educational §501(c)(3) organization. Not owned or operated by any government agency, university, school system, or commercial entity, WEVL's funding comes primarily from our listeners, who attend our concerts and benefits and become members with donations of $40 or more. The majority of our operating revenue is raised during our biannual pledge drives.
WEVL broadcasts to a radius of approximately 50 miles, covering the Greater Memphis area, and is heard in three states and wordwide via the Internet. Our achievements to date reflect 48 years of growth, countless volunteer hours of effort, and millions of dollars in listener donations. And we continue to work toward greater goals.
